Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Expect at my First Visit? You will be escorted to a private room where we'll discuss your concerns, your history, and your primary goals for treatment. Next, we will conduct a comprehensive examination - this will include assessment of your movement, palpation of impacted areas of your body, and introduce some treatment techniques. Palpation is appropriate touching of areas of pain to test responsiveness, tone, reflexes, and more. After our examination, we will discuss with you what therapy can do for you, what our plan of care will include so you are fully informed what to expect when working with us. In order to maximize our assessment and plan of care time, please ensure you've completed the intake paperwork at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

What Should I Wear? Please dress comfortably, preferably in loose clothing you can move and breathe easily in as exercise may be used during sessions. We provide gowns as needed.

Can Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy help if I do not want (or cannot) participate in internal vaginal or rectal treatment? Absolutely! It doesn't matter if you cannot participate or if you simply don't want to - we respect any and all reasons. We have many tools at our disposal to get you the outcomes you desire. Internal assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor is often the best option for fast, quality results, but it is always paired with other therapies as well. We always explain what we are doing and why, and are happy to accommodate your requests to modify treatment based on your comfort and needs.

Do you accept patients of all genders? Absolutely! Traditionally male anatomy and traditionally female anatomy are more similar than they are different and many pelvic floor concerns can impact all genders. We are happy to welcome anyone with concerns to our facility. For pediatrics or those under the age of 15 we do often refer to Pediatric specialists.

I'm Pregnant, when should I start Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy? We love to start seeing you towards the end of your first trimester or beginning of the second trimester. When you're feeling great, with no pain or symptoms, sessions are expected to be once every 6-8 weeks to assess your body's adaptation. By third trimester we discuss increasing frequency as we include birth planning and preparation, such as labor positioning, breathing techniques, perineal mobility and training for home care, and addressing any discomforts that have popped up. Should symptoms develop at any time, including low back pain, sacro-iliac pain, surprise leaking or incontinence, please see us sooner rather than later as we can get you tips and treatments to help carry you through your pregnancy comfortably.

I just had my Baby, how soon can I come in? Congratulations! I encourage all Mamas to spend the first few weeks focusing on resting and bonding with your baby. When you feel safe to drive and after about 4 weeks, we are excited to see you. At 4-6 weeks we do external assessment and treatment, as well as introduction of safe return to movement and answer your questions about your postpartum body. After your 6-week postpartum visit with OB/Gyn we may begin internal (vaginal) assessment and treatment with increased discussion of safe return to exercise.

How much does Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy cost? Do you take my Insurance? We are covered by your insurance company's "Out of Network" benefits. This means we have opted not to contract specifically with insurance as it allows us to provide 55-minute sessions of 1:1 care that is fully customized to any concerns you have about your health. We will charge you at each session, then we provide a Superbill within 24 hours of every appointment for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We charge $175 for the initial evaluation, then $150 for each regular treatment session.
